KStew’s iPod: Music For Kristen Stewart Fans

While this post does not contain the actual contents of Kristen Stewart’s iPod touch, it does contain some awesome music that KStew fans are going to love. I’ve found some music that you could bet very strongly that KStew has heard of/likes/has on her iPod. We know Kristen likes to shop at Urban Outfitters, so what better place to look for some KStew music?

On the Urban Outfitters website, they have a music page. On the music page, you can click on LSTN where they have downloadable playlists for anyone to enjoy. This is where I found my wealth of (what I consider to be) KStew music. I’ve only delved into LSTN#1 because there’s 8 of them and I just want to enjoy the playlists one at a time. The music is hard to describe: indie, rock, folk, a bit of electro. Before you knock it, have a listen on YouTube or just download the tracks from the UO site and see what you like. There are some amazing songs on there but I’ll give you my top picks below:

The Best of UO LSTN#1 aka KStew playlist:

  1. Broken Social Scene ft Brendan Canning – Hit The Wall
  2. Los Campesinos! – Death To Los Campesinos!
  3. Albert Hammond, Jr. – GfC
  4. Lykke Li – Little Bit
  5. The Notwist – Boneless
  6. King Khan & The Shrines – Outta Harms Way

Kristen recently noted Broken Social Scene as a band she listens to – she even saw them live at the SXSW festival last week. Lykke Li was recently featured on the New Moon Soundtrack with “Possibility” and as for the rest of the tracks, I strongly urge you to take a listen. The playlist seems very “Kristen” and that means only one thing – awesome and original music. Enjoy!

The Runaways Soundtrack & Original Runaways Music

After seeing The Runaways last night, I got totally hooked on the music from the movie. There are four songs from the original Runaways band that are covered in the movie, and a selection of other tunes including music from David Bowie, Sex Pistols, and Joan Jett herself. The Runaways Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is already digitally available from some outlets, and will be widely released this Tuesday March 23rd in stores!

Here’s the track listing for the The Runaways movie soundtrack, I’ve starred what I think the best tracks on the st are:

  1. Nick Gilder – Roxy Roller
  2. Suzi Quatro – The Wild One
  3. MC5 – It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World
  4. David Bowie – Rebel Rebel
  5. Dakota Fanning – Cherry Bomb *
  6. The Runaways – Hollywood
  7. Dakota Fanning – California Paradise
  8. The Runaways – You Drive Me Wild *
  9. Dakota Fanning & Kristen Stewart – Queens Of Noise *
  10. Dakota Fanning & Kristen Stewart – Dead End Justice *
  11. The Stooges – I Wanna Be Your Dog
  12. The Runaways – I Wanna Be Where The Boys Are
  13. Sex Pistols – Pretty Vacant
  14. Joan Jett – Don’t Abuse Me *

“Dead End Justice” has to be the best song from the movie, and it made me want to hear more of The Runaways music. I’ve been checking out their various albums throughout the day, but the best place to get started might be with a “Best of” Runaways album:

  • Best Of The Runaways (1990) :
  • It’s got the original versions of “Cherry Bomb,” “Queens of Noise,” and “I Love Playin’ With Fire” which KStew performs in the movie. (Unfortunately, they don’t have it on The Runaways soundtrack which is too bad because she kills is!)
  • The Best Of The Runaways: 20th Century Masters (2005) :
  • This album has digitally remastered Runaways tracks including cool tunes such as “Secrets” and “Take It Or Leave It.” The songs sound amazing after being remastered and I think a lot of people will be checking out these kinds of albums to get acquainted with the original Runaways band.

Still looking for more? I’ll give you a taste of what I’ve come across and share some tracks from my own Runaways playlist. These songs have a similar sound to what you will have heard in The Runaways movie – Enjoy!

Amy’s Runaways Playlist:

  1. The Runaways – I Love Playin’ With Fire
  2. The Runaways – Secrets
  3. The Runaways – Blackmail
  4. The Runaways – You Drive Me Wild (Live)
  5. The Runaways – Heartbeat
  6. The Runaways – Born To Be Bad
  7. The Runaways – Rock And Roll
  8. The Runaways – Midnight Music
  9. The Runaways – Is It Day Or Night
  10. The Runaways – Cherry Bomb

Check out KStew and DFann absolutely rocking it below in their version of “Dead End Justice” – totally badass:

The Runaways Movie Review

The Runaways blew me away tonight. There’s so many things I loved about it, but most of all the way Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning bring to life two people who my generation haven’t gotten to know. The Runaways movie avoids gimmicky story-telling and lets the lives of Joan Jett and Cherie Currie be told in a way that feels honest. This movie is harsh, brazen, passionate, and electrifying. It is full of meaning, confusion, epic highs and deep lows. It progresses in a way that feels chaotic but natural – which leads me to believe that this movie is as real and authentic as it could get.

As the audience, you go from square one with Joan and Cherie. Joan starts out as someone asking for a chance. By the end of the film you see her fight to keep her dreams alive, and she’s not asking – she’s telling the world who she is and what she stands for. You see Cherie go from an innocent fifteen year old dolled up in a club, to a rock and roll superstar with more fame than she knows what to do with. The set up is dangerous and it’s clever. There’s Joan who’s dreamed of this life and this career. She’s ready and willing to dive in head first. Then there’s Cherie who gets discovered, but gets fame thrown in her face. She isn’t expecting what is suddenly expected of her.

The transitions in The Runaways paint an accurate picture of the disconnect between the quiet suburban life these girls had beforehand and the lifestyle of a rock and roll band. The girls go from practicing in a trailer to playing sold out shows in Japan. Joan goes from being an aspiring musician to what holds The Runaways together. Cherie goes from being a little girl to one who all too quickly grows up. The cuts between Cheri’s modest family home and five-star hotels tell us without the use of words how much the lives of these girls have changed and how quickly.

The Runaways doesn’t shy away from any detail, in fact, it seems to focus in on gritty pivotal snapshots. There’s alcohol in water guns, there’s hook ups and growing up, and there are lots of drugs. The mishaps and mistakes that happen along the way are what make this story believable. It seems heartbreaking but necessary for The Runaways movie to really strike the audience the way it does. I like that this movie didn’t wash over these kinds of details and chose instead to mark them clearly as stepping-stones in the stages of this band’s life together.

Amidst all the chaos, you see this bond form between Joan and Cherie that is simple and beautiful. While Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning both give phenomenal performances in this movie, I think their biggest success is in the way they interact on-screen. They experience what it’s like to be a rock star individually but together, and they lean on each other because of that. Kristen gives Joan’s character this kind of unfailing strength and perseverance while Dakota Fanning responds with the portrayal of an imperfect young Cherie who’s just trying to grow up but not let it happen too quickly.

The music of  The Runaways was the best part of the movie for me. I didn’t really know many of their songs before seeing the movie, so it was great to see some raw 70’s rock being revitalized. Dakota is so good in “Cherry Bomb” – it defines Cherie in the context of the film, and it definitely resonates with the turmoil she goes through. I also loved “Dead End Justice” that Kristen and Dakota both sing lead vocals for. Between the flashing lights, the electric guitar blaring, and their lyrics bouncing back and forth, it was an overwhelming spectacle to witness. It’s raw and edgy rock that you fall in love with instantly.

I’d recommend this movie to anyone who wants to see what Kristen Stewart is really made of or to anyone who loves rock and roll. This movie has done well and will continue to do well because it tells The Runaways’ story in a way that is meaningful to people on different levels. It will mean something to you if you’re a fan of Kristen or Dakota, if you love the original 70’s Runaways band, or if you simply love music and the amazing stories it can tell about people’s lives.

The Runaways tells us about a band that mattered and will continue to matter today with their story being retold.

New Moon DVD Release: New Moon Shopping At Walmart

So after debating and stressing about the New Moon dvd release, I decided on the standard New Moon 2 Disc Special Edition from Walmart. I was busy last night downtown and couldn’t make it to a New Moon release party, so a shopping trip to Walmart this morning was in order.

It was hilarious last night though – I kept seeing people peeking into HMV and Chapters around 9:00pm trying to be discreet and failing so badly. Come on, we all know you couldn’t wait to get in there! Anyway, I headed to Walmart this morning and they had a fair amount of Twilight stuff set up. The cool thing about Walmart’s edition of New Moon is that you get a free New Moon movie poster inside the dvd.

Walmart’s New Moon dvd also comes with a 3d hologram cover featuring Edward, Bella, and Jacob. I’m not sure where else you can get this cover but it’s pretty cool!

The other popular destination for purchasing New Moon last night/today seems to be BestBuy where you can get the steel tin casing and the Edward doll. It was tempting, but I decided I have enough merchandise to open my own Twilight store/museum so I stuck with Walmart to avoid excess shopping. It was pretty bad I managed to find a 2/$10 dvd bin despite my efforts to avoid all other shopping and almost bought Zathura because of KStew – you know you have problems when…

If you’re shopping for New Moon in the Vancouver area, and you’re addicted to all of the crazy merch Summit keeps rolling out: Walmart is carrying a bunch of Twilight T-shirts, New Moon bedding, New Moon blankets, New Moon pillow cases. They are also selling the Twilight graphic novel based on Stephenie Meyer’s first Twilight installment.

Happy Shopping this weekend Twilighters! Check back tonight for my review of KStew and DFann in “The Runaways.”

Where To Buy New Moon On DVD In Canada

New Moon is coming out on dvd this Saturday March 20th, and a lot of Twilight fans seem to be wondering where the best place to buy it will be. I live in Vancouver, BC so I’ll be posting the options that should be available here and anywhere else in Canada.

  • HMV – New Moon (2 Disc Special Edition) for $19.99. HMV doesn’t list any kind of product details for the dvd so I’m assuming it is the standard 2 Disc New Moon Special Edition
  • Future Shop – New Moon (2 Disc Special Edition) for $17.99. Same dvd as the one HMV will be selling I am assuming, and it is a bit cheaper! – New Moon (Future Shop Exclusive Steelbook) for $22.99. This one is a bit more expensive, has same features as the Special Edition, but comes with steel casing.
  • Best Buy – New Moon (2 Disc Special Edition) for $19.99. Once again the standard dvd, but they also have a cool offer for a bit more. – New Moon (Best Buy Exclusive) for $26.99. The Best Buy exclusive includes the dvd, special casing, and an Edward Cullen doll! (lame for some, exciting for others)
  • Chapters – New Moon (2 Disc Special Edition) for $27.00. This is what they list as the online price. I have no idea why it is so much and I’m thinking it’s going to be cheaper in store.. it should be!
  • Walmart – The Canadian site doesn’t list any prices, but they do list the New Moon Ultimate Fan Edition dvd. On the US site this is listed for $24.96 so it will be a similar price in Canada. The Ultimate Fan Edition includes footage from Eclipse.

These are my suggestions for the best places to pick up New Moon on Saturday a.m. (either at midnight if you’re crazy like me, or a more reasonable hour of the day if you’re normal).

Also, a couple of cool details to share with you. The Chapters location in downtown Vancouver is reportedly having a midnight release party with games/quizzes/movie screening/and of course shopping options. Future Shop stores across Canada will also be hosting ‘midnight madness’ New Moon release parties.

Also, Walmart in the States will be opening Twilight kiosks in their stores once New Moon is on sale and you’ll be able to buy tons of merch. I don’t know for sure if this is also happening in Canada Walmart locations, but it may be worth driving over and checking it out sometime on Saturday.
